What we are

The Respect Index is a hiring accountability platform that tracks how companies treat job seekers and employees — from first application to final separation. We publish verified, user-submitted reports on hiring practices, recruiter conduct, ghost postings, and workforce separations. Our data is sourced entirely from people who have lived these experiences firsthand.

Why we exist

Ghosting, phantom job postings, eight-round interview processes with no offer, layoffs with no notice — these are not rare exceptions. They are widespread practices that cost job seekers time, money, and dignity. The Respect Index exists because employers have had accountability-free hiring practices for too long. We are changing that.

How it works

Job seekers submit reports about their hiring experiences. Reports are verified through email confirmation and weighted by credibility. Companies receive scores based on their aggregate hiring behavior — Ghost Score, Process Score, and Separation Score. Scores update in real time as new reports come in. Companies cannot pay to improve their scores.

What we track

We track hiring practices at over 1,500 companies and growing — including S&P 500 companies, Fortune 500 non-tech, and companies that have filed WARN Act notices. We also track individual recruiters and recruiting firms, ghost job postings, and separation practices through The Separation Index at theseparationindex.com.

Our principles

We publish what people report. We do not remove reports because a company finds them unflattering. We protect the anonymity of every report submitter. We apply the same standards to every company regardless of size, industry, or advertising budget. We are not a consumer reporting agency and our data may not be used for employment screening decisions.

Who built this

The Respect Index was founded by a communications executive with 20 years of experience across automotive, technology, industrial real estate, and clean energy. After experiencing firsthand how companies treat employees during separations, and watching countless job seekers describe ghosting and phantom postings, the platform was built to create the accountability layer the job market has always needed.
